RIP Willy

Today is the shortest day of the year. Sunrise was at 10:14AM and sunset will be at 3:43PM = approx. 5:30 of daylight today with a High of 21 degrees under clear sunny skies and Low predicted of 18 F tonight.

But sun times are short lived with
at least 5 days of snow predicted starting tomorrow....... and the clutch went out in the jeep snowplow yesterday.

Neil may get a riding snow blowing, grass cutting tractor for Christmas. Have it narrowed down to 3 used Possibles .... but will probably wait for the After Christmas Sales as they are wanting New prices for Used. Our Emergency Fund sure has taken some hard hits this year. Thankful we have one. Neil's Buddy is technical adviser on the purchase so it can be a surprise.

Will need to hold a Reburial Ceremony for the old jeep as it has very handily done a Super snow job since we bought it in 1995.

It was on it's last legs then as our friend dug it up from an old army disposal pit out on the Aleutian Chain and used it for many years for his snow plowing. Still has the litter slats in back for carrying bodies and a machine gun turret behind/between the front seats...and some interesting dash placards (one reads: Turn off Heater in case of Atomic Fallout :-) It always seemed rather hazardous to me that the driver's seat pad was sitting directly on the gas tank...but what do I know. We do have the original Owner's Manual which says it can ford water up to 60 inches (I guess the driver has to be pretty good at holding his breath.)

It's sat out in the toughest weather and never failed to start with just a few pumps and grinds at the starter. It's a total rust bucket (I offered to camouflage some rust spots by painting daisies over them but was Vetoed) but the only repairs Neil made was to lengthen the exhaust pipe as it was leaking up into the cab....and rewiring the battery setup once when the charge wouldn't hold.

The old boy well deserves a good rest. Don't expect to find anything with as much character or heart again. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
