Gwamma's Thanksgiving Rap

Gwamma's Thanksgiving Rap

T'was Thanksgiving Eve and throughout the Far North,
Cold temperatures plunged like a galloping horse.

The Aurora was dancing in a cold Winters' sky
Reflecting on snowy mountains so high.

O'er ice-crusted lakes, black ravens flyby,
And moose snuggle warmly and bears get shuteye.

The fireplace is blazing with hiss-crackle-pop.
The turkey awaits cooking in the old blue crockpot.

Gwamma made it home from a quick little trip
To pick up some last minute recipe tidbits.

She unloads the car, stamps snow from her boot.
Throws her hat on the rack and peels her snowsuit.

Her booty she piles on counter and table,
Grabs apron and starts cooking with a hoot and a giggle.

There's dressing to make, candied yams and green beans,
pumpkin pie, deviled eggs and gravy tureens.

A cranberry compote, pecan tarts for nibbling,
A crusty bread loaf in the hot oven rising.

Time for a break, sit down by the fire,
Toast a marshmellow or two for my hearts' desire.

Give thanks for the bounty of hearth, home and spread,
A funny little Grandson who lost part of his head.

But the Tooth Fairy came thru with a coin or two.
So all in all, it was quite a coup.

Special thanks for my Son & Daughter-in-law
For giving me a little one, who calls me "Gwamma"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL & TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT

Spring Trying To Spring

Days are warming up fast.   Deck looked entirely too bare with all the snow gone.  So even tho there are still piles of it around and I had to dig some of the pieces out of a snowbank, I dragged some  deck furniture out to arranged an outside sitting area.  The little dogwood tree is only silk but  it added cheerfulness to the ambiance... it's in season somewhere I'm sure.   Spring is definitely on its' way.

Next project was detailing the inside of my Jeep while husband changed out the studded tires.  Summer tires are soooooo much prettier....and quieter.

New Snowfall Record

http://www.adn.com/2012/04/07/2411798/city-inches-closer-to-the-seasonal.html

I knew it was an exceptional amount of snow this winter.  It's official.  We broke the seasonal snowfall record.  Saturday, April 7th, snow fell across the city  and at 4 p.m. the official tally was 133.6 inches, breaking a record set during the winter of 1954-55 by an even 1 inch. Another 0.9 inches fell by 7 p.m., putting the total at 134.5, where it would likely stand , the Weather Service said.

Easter Morn was a white one as evidenced in the photos below.

But on this morning of April 19th, there are huge patches of brown grass showing through the remaining snowdrift piles.  Not a tinge of green on the trees yet, but these 15 hour days of sunlight, and temps in the upper 40s/lower 50s should have those popping out soon.  The pendulum swings.

LOVING LAMPOSTS

A wonderful video of what it's like to live with an autistic. Have read as much as I could find about autism, but still got a clearer picture from watching this film.

To make the world a little easier to deal with, I would appreciate your Sharing this clip so more people can understand wonderful people like my little grandson, Nicky. It's sooooo great to have the ability to love a lampost :-) ....but life isn't easy for them. It would help if more people understood autism.

Fur Rondy and Iditarod

Fur Rondy   (the Alaskan version of Carnival/Mardi Gras)  is just winding down and the dogs bounded off on their 1000 mile  Iditarod race to Nome.  Lots of fun keeping track of them out there on that long cold trail.  Should be in to Nome in about a week to 10 days...depending.

Moose Abound

With the deep snow come more moose traffic in town and out.  Recently two Valley women, in separate instances, were stomped by  moose while guarding their children at school bus stops.   Normally, moose will not bother you if you don't bother them.  But deputies report the moose are tired and hungry from trying to find enough to eat with the heavy snowfall.  So they are not in the best of moods.

There was also the odd visitor to Providence Hospital recently.   Providence staff members believe the moose wandered into the parking garage sometime Saturday, and nurse Leslie Bagley snapped its photo in a first-floor entrance Sunday morning, said hospital spokeswoman Ginger Houghton. By Monday, the moose was on the third floor of the garage, Houghton said.

"Moose wander in there, because moose wander into random places," Houghton said. "We have moose on our campus frequently, and it is not unusual to see them in our parking garage. But this was the first time a moose had wandered up to the third floor."

Security guards kept tabs on the moose and made sure people did not approach it, lest they be injured, Houghton said. The moose would get a bit agitated when anybody came near, she said.

The hospital staff became more concerned that the moose would continue up the parking garage, Houghton said. The staff decided it was time to take action, she said.

"They very carefully, and quietly, placed cars around the garage to lead it out," Houghton said. "This process took about eight hours."

On Monday, the moose was eventually able to exit on the ground floor, Houghton said.

Neil was chopping ice from in front of my shop door yesterday when a young moose wandered over to snack on the front trees.  Wasn't at all disturbed by Neil's work, but I keep a close  eye on them as Neil can't move too quickly with his bad foot.  Any movement toward Neil and I would have been flying out the door with my shovel to pound his butt.

It was just a skinny little one.  As it went on around the house, I could see it's ribs were showing.  If it wasn't illegal for good reason, I would have put out something for him to eat.
